While unfortunate, the holidays are often a time of increased shoplifting. This fact, coupled with hard economic times, means that 2008 has been expected to break shoplifting records. The security professionals at leading home and business security companies, however, are committed to preventing this. The same company that has been the top name in home security for over a century has developed some remarkable products to help both small and large businesses help combat shoplifting this year.
Last year alone, businesses lost a total of around thirty billion dollars from theft. While shoplifting only accounted for about one third of that figure, leading security companies have products that are designed to prevent both shoplifting and employee theft, which amassed about half of the estimated figure.

Because the most high end systems can cost tens of thousands of dollars, some small business owners feel that the systems are an economic burden. For many stores, the systems reduce the amount of shoplifted items by the cost of the equipment within the first two years. For smaller businesses with less high end inventory, however, less expensive equipment may be enough.
Businesses have responded favorably to the new anti theft devices. While the statistics will not be in for many months, owners are hoping that the new technology has greatly reduced the losses incurred by theft from customers and employees alike. The new devices have certainly shown great promise.
